As most of you know, Carter and I recently moved out of our house and into an Airbnb with the intentions of traveling the world. It’s only been two weeks since our initial move out, but I already feel like this new era has presented us with many unique situations and learning opportunities.
Before our move, I had agreed to bake this cake for @fromthelobby with intentions of creating the content after we moved out. To my surprise, our Airbnb didn’t have any cooking or baking appliances. I exhausted my creative resources, my friends, and extensions trying to come up with a way to complete this content.
Given our move, I’ve also been required to sell a lot of furniture and part with pieces that I never thought I would - which has been a learning experience within itself. After much contemplation, I decided to sell my beautiful dresser that had been passed onto me by my grandmother, and hand painted by someone very close to me.
When we delivered this piece, I was met by the kindest woman and the dresser was placed in the most beautiful home. Upon leaving, she asked if we could pick up another piece for her, but my mission for the rest of the day was to find a way to bake this cake.
Then I had an idea, we could pick up this piece in exchange for using the kitchen. I knew it was a long shot, but I thought it was worth presenting. To my delight, she agreed. Carter and I spent the afternoon picking up a couch, and got to bake our cake in a lovely house with a lovely human for the rest of the night.
While this series of events was a bit unprecedented and chaotic, it made me really excited for the opportunities that are going to arise upon us traveling. Not having a kitchen may not be the most ideal, but it also gave us the opportunity to meet a wonderful person, forced us to be resourceful, and made for a really fun night.
I’m not saying you have to give up your kitchen to have fulfilling experiences, but I am saying that sometimes taking a leap can bring you unique opportunities. I’m excited to see how the rest of this experience unfolds and all of the new people we get to meet. Thank you Susan for opening up your home to us. 🍰🍵
