The thought of night running scares you? Let's talk! I am not always confident while running on the pavement or trails during late hours but I'll do it. When I started running, I still had a standard 9 to 5 - or in my case, 4pm to 1am. I'd either train mornings after I woke or ventured off at night. Additionally, I rode to and from work on my hybrid bike from The Village to Brooklyn both ways every evening unless my body was exceptionally tired. It kept me in great condition, saved money and removing my fear of moving during the evening. Actually, it was rather peaceful. But I realized what got me there: Consistency, education and practice. Building up my confidence afforded me the opportunity to learn different routes, embrace the beauty that the night offers and with education, I equipped myself with an adequate amount of knowledge on what to do if I was presented with a problem. I know women, non binary and marginalized people are flooded with scare tactics about "the right time to run" or to move with a male chaperone 😮‍💨 - that's not for everyone. Whatever works for you is probably what's best. How do you feel about night running? Will you consider trying it? Drop your thoughts below. Let's chat.
