Enough is enough. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ My name is Eugene Lim. I stand here, as a man, to talk about yet another female that was abused, this time a runner that was kidnapped and murdered while out on her routine morning run. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is not the first time an attack like this has happened, and sadly this will also not be the last where the victim is blamed for her own tragedy - for the time she chose to run, the route she took, the clothes she wore or the lack of weapons she didn't carry to defend herself. Let us be clear that IT WAS NOT HER FAULT. While we can take precautions to mitigate certain risks, ultimately a predator’s actions are through their own volition and twisted selfish desire to hurt another. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is why I am here, to speak and show up as a runner, a man, a son, a partner and most importantly as a human being. As a man, to stand up for womens’ safety. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ I will be honest - I do not know all the answers, I have a lot to learn, I am willing to learn. By speaking to people, having some tough conversations to undo years of systemic conditioning to open my eyes, by speaking to women on how they feel, how they want to be supported to feel safe. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ So here I am, putting it out there, speaking up. Starting the conversation as a man to call on other men to raise the volume on this subject, both women’s safety and also to stop victim blaming. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ Because while this is a womens issue, it’s clearly a man's problem. Not all men are the problem. But all men can help change this problem by standing with women in creating a safe space. Let's start speaking up to make a difference. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ To educate ourselves, educate our sons, our brothers, fathers, friends, colleagues and team mates. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let's stand up. Speak up. Starting today #ElizaFletcher #NotHerFault #WithWomenWeRun
