I shot these portraits with Barry Keoghan 5 years ago in NYC. To this day this shoot is one of my favorites. Everything about it just flowed so easily & this was 100% down to the trust Barry gave me & all the crew working on this. It’s really rare that someone gives as much with such vulnerability in such a short window of time. I’d first met Barry as a teenager when he was working on an independent film in Dublin & we’d always kept in touch on & off. When I arrived to our location that morning to shoot this I don’t think he knew it was me working on it so I think/hope it was a pleasant surprise when he recognized me. I hadn’t seen him in person for a few years at this stage & his confidence & presence had grown so much. He was like a completely different person but exactly the same in a way. He was at a pivotal point in terms of where his acting was taking him & it was so clear as an observer just how energized & ready he was to take it all on but on his own terms.
