I always strive to lead by example. TO WALK MY TALK. Sometimes I fall short, and sometimes I need to remind myself that if I want my athlete to do something, or I want them to believe something about themselves that I BELIEVE about them, then I need to be willing to do those things for myself. I busted myself today, because my actions and the words I was saying to myself about my body as I was trying on bathing suits, were NOT aligned with my values and what I work so hard to teach my girls. I need to be the voice of reason. Not only the voice of motivation, but the strength on days they have none, the constant positive voice reminding them of their worth. Our bodies show up for us every day. Not only is our body keeping us alive, but it allows us to do extraordinary things. Our bodies are phenomenal and inspiring. My athletes demand so much from their bodies every single day. Rep after rep, hour after hour. We ask our body to be stronger, more explosive, move with better precision, to go a little bit faster, to push a little bit harder, to pick up the barbell one more time, to stay healthy and injury free so we can go in and do it all over again tomorrow. YET, we somehow have allowed filters, social media, celebrities, altered photos, and what other athletes look like define and be the inspiration of how WE look. And this causes us to stop giving ourselves what we need MENTALLY and PHYSICALLY so that we can continue to demand so much from our bodies. My goal, my wish, my fucking mission is to help my girls, and my daughter, know that how we FEEL, how our bodies FEEL is soooo much more important than how we look. Eat and hydrate to fuel your body so that it can continue to get stronger, faster, more explosive, more powerful. So that it can continue to show up for you daily, so it can recover and stay injury free. Be kind to yourself—love your body for all that it is and all that it gives you, and because it shows up for you every day, and is the only one you have. If you are not willing to give your body sleep, kindness, sunshine, food, water, rest, self-care and more LOVE and ACCEPTANCE when it needs it, how can you keep asking it to do more for you?
