This was our most amazing Blue Whale encounter to date, on this past Friday’s Expedition! We were driving along at our cruising speed when this whale surprised us by surfacing right off our bow. We immediately slowed the boat and turned the engine off. To our surprise the whale made a beeline straight for us. Usually Blue Whales will pass under a boat at 20-30 feet down, but this one passed just about 2 feet under the hull. Again and again over the course of an hour, the whale couldn’t get enough of checking us out upon surfacing. The next day it was also seen, but not since then. A very special whale!
