Hey. So, a lot has happened this year, and yet, there is still so much to do, and then, there are all the other things you feel like you SHOULD be able to do, but aren’t sure you’ll be able to. In this space, I hope you know this is true: any little space you create to do nothing at all right now matters more than you know. Even if it’s just for a few minutes. And there’s some risk in that because this might mean not every single text gets answered, not every item on your checklist gets marked “complete,” not every single expectation placed on you will be something you’re able to meet, but through it all, you are a human being who has made it through so many things and it still matters when you make room to just be (even if it takes time to see it that way). Yes, the world is lined with questions, but it is lined with horizon lines and tree lines too— bold reminders at the edges of our current landscape that we must continue making room to rest, to breathe, to be. So even if it’s only for a moment I hope you feel free to sit on the couch, sleep in, or look out the window and stare up at the trees. And I hope you don’t feel like you need to get more done before you get to experience these things. Here’s to discovering what it means for you to do nothing at all no matter how small. And here’s to creating room to breathe over and over again. MHN Of course, doing “nothing” is in fact doing “something,” but it’s more about doing less of big “somethings” in exchange for slower, more passive things that tend to get classified as “nothing.” In other words: Sitting on the couch Sitting on the couch watching TV Lying down even if you’re not going to sleep Looking out the window, just because Walking slowly Taking a leisurely stroll Sitting on the ground in silence Listening to music and daydreaming about nothing in particular Reading a book just for fun And so, so many more things... I think a lot of this comes down to this question: What in your life feels like it's doing "nothing" but it's actually "something" because it allows you to simply exist? Even if it's just for a few minutes?
