🔴Sexual violence has long been used as a weapon of war but is rarely prosecuted as investigations come too late. The new Sexual Violence Mobile Justice Team in Ukraine aims to change that by striking while the iron is hot.⁠ ⁠ “Their identities can be found,” said Wayne Jordash KC, an English barrister from Scunthorpe who leads the team. “We will work to ensure that those who suffer these terrible crimes are supported and that Putin’s men are brought to account.”⁠ ⁠ It’s the first time a unit of its type has been deployed in an active war zone.⁠ ⁠ The team – which supports the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine and is part-funded by the UK – visits crime scenes, collects witness statements and uncovers the identities of those who stand accused.⁠ ⁠ “One mother reported to the Sexual Violence Mobile Justice Team that she was raped while her five-year old child was in the next-door room.
