Sometimes the stars align and friendship and work collide. It’s so exciting to be opening a new display at the Design Museum with designer @yinka_ilori πŸ’« YINKA ILORI: PARABLES FOR HAPPINESS (15 September 2022 - June 2023), will celebrate Ilori’s unique mix of cultural influences and unpack the ingredients of a diasporic visual language πŸ”ΊπŸ”ΉπŸ”ΈπŸ”» The display will showcase key elements of Ilori’s vibrant aesthetic, which have been drawn from a mix of cultures that came together in the north London diaspora community where he grew up. It will position his work beside key influences, especially Nigerian textiles, showing the power of mixed cultural perspectives to generate joy and inclusivity 🀩 Priya Khanchandani, Head of Curatorial at the Design Museum said, β€œThe diasporas of Britain are still finding their place in the cultural canon even though in-between spaces are essential to the fabric of who we are. This display is a testament to how cultural fusions, frissions and juxtapositions can be rich fuel for creativity and for generating more inclusive architectures in the city. We could not be more delighted to be presenting this story at the Design Museum.” πŸ™ πŸ™ŒπŸ½ More in the @guardian today.... πŸ’₯πŸ’₯πŸ’₯ The display is free of charge and will follow Bethany Williams: Alternative Systems which opened earlier this year - please catch it before it closes on 4 September! πŸ—“ πŸ“Έ by @_samjacob πŸ™ πŸ‘— [jumpsuit] by @lfmarkey #happiness #work #design #community #power #london #creativity #architecture #joy #designmuseum #londondesignfestival #ldf22 #exhibition #museumlife #yinkailori #parablesforhappiness
