Breaking, Directed by Abi Damaris Corbin, in Theaters — Look, we’re still not over John Boyega getting screwed over in Star Wars so we’ll root for his career forever. And he gives an amazing performance in this tense thriller about a down-on-his-luck marine veteran who robs a bank in order to receive money owed to him by the VA. The late, great Michael K. Williams costars. * 3. Barbarian, Written & Directed by Zach Cregger, in Theaters — We all have at least one horror story about an Airbnb stay gone wrong. When a young woman finds out her Airbnb host double-booked the house she’s staying in, she decides to stay with the stranger overnight. But can she trust this man she doesn’t know? And can either of them trust that the house poses no danger? * 4. FORMIDABLE: American Women and the Fight for Equality: 1920-2020, by Elisabeth Griffith — Griffith is no stranger to books about remarkable women, having written a biography on Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Formidable explores 100 years of history through an intersectional, multiracial feminist lens.
