I have loved music and media stores for as long as I can remember, so when I heard they were opening a Virgin Megastore in South Miami back in 1999 I essentially pestered them until they hired me (swipe for the essay my 16-year-old Anglophile nerd self wrote on the application 🤓). I spent six amazing years there before leaving to open @sweatrecords and I cannot believe I’m writing this but this Saturday is the 17th anniversary of what started as an urgent desire to give Miami the independent locally-focused shop it deserved. It would take eons to enumerate all the ways I’ve been changed for the better by this journey. There’s a lot of new moves ahead so cheers to everyone who has supported, everyone who buys records and merch to help us keep the doors open, and who knows that the value of a place like Sweat extends far beyond retail.
