Through delicate craftsmanship, @juliecockburnartist pieces transform everyday and found objects including old photos, into new and spontaneous works of art, Lula asked her about her creative process and how she deals with creative block: “First, I have to give myself permission to stop. I often have creative block at the end of making work for an exhibition or art fair, and I am spent. It’s exhausting what I do, physically and mentally and I know that for every work I output, I have to replenish the stores from where it came. I find Julia Cameron’s ‘The Artist’s Way’ really valuable when I’m completely stuck. I do ‘morning pages’ – they are incredibly effectual – and take myself on ‘artist’s dates’. Mostly, I try to be kind to myself and dispel that monster inner critic. But I also think it’s important to go to the studio, even if you don’t know what to do. There is enormous power in making that first mark” ❊ Artwork: ‘Landscape with Mountain’, Copyright Julie Cockburn.
