I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how different my life is now that I’ve experienced some progress in my health. My arms hold port de bras where they once held needles. My legs don’t ache from fever, but from propelling me into grand allegro. My mind is working to retain choreography, not remember the latest medication schedule my doctors prescribed me. I once heard that God compensates us for the losses in our lives. That one day it would feel as if those nine years never happened. Though the memories of chronic illness still rumble just under the surface, I think I might be starting to understand what that person meant. (Knock on wood!) If you are in the midst of your own relentless heartbreak, I want you to know that I’m so sorry. Watching someone else’s progress can be hopeful, but it can also be disheartening when you’ve been denied that same thing. For what it’s worth, my belief is that help is on the way for you too. Just hold on a little longer. 🤍 Haley
