I don’t even know what the fuck is going on here, but somehow I’m a million years old and on my phone at the @eltonjohn show. Took a hand to god hour plus to go the last mile to dodger stadium and the road was littered with idiots, but it was worth it. Like it or not, his songs are the connective tissue of lives of a certain age and I’m no exception. His songs and voice have soundtracked early family car trips, long stretches of MTV viewership, years of high school, favorite movies - but I was never a fan as much as someone alive at a time when calendar years of life were wallpapered by inescapable Elton John hits. But then, driving to a far off high school graduation party with a car full of sleeping friends, I put on one of his records by choice for the first time. Your Song and Rocket Man did it. I was 18 and wanted to be Jimmy Page, so why was I rewinding those songs over and over? Finally seeing him last night was the bucket list item my teenage self didn’t know he needed.
