My brain cannot and does not want to comprehend a reality without Dan Hughes. This post is not necessarily for our friends and the people in Philadelphia who knew and loved Dan. People who knew what his smile looked like and his laugh sounded like and experienced first hand his artistic talent and kindness and love for our music scene. Not for people who played him in chess and got destroyed by him and told him to give them a year while they got better. This post is for our fans who may not be aware of just how important Dan was in MP’s artistic life and just how desperately in this moment we want to honor him and his talent and now his memory. I first started collaborating with Dan on MP artwork in 2016 & he quickly become my favorite illustrator & artist to work with. He was our longest running collaborator - his designs among the most iconic and recognizable at our merch tables. Throughout the years he would go on to create dozens of illustrations for merch, tour and show posters. If you ever bought a hand screened tour poster of ours, there was a good chance it was Dan who pulled the screens & picked the colors to make sure it looked perfect. His designs so iconic that they wound up in an episode of Mare of Easttown - where we discussed how fun it was to realize that if MP existed in the fictional universe than so did Dan Hughes. One of the great honors of being in a band is the chance to collaborate with other talented artists. Artists who help you access & find your own unique style & your mark and your design. Of course a unique style & mark is only possible when the illustrator in question is kind enough to dedicate their time and talent and passion to your band. Dan was always down to create for us and with us. The amount of times I texted “hey I know this is last minute” or “hey I have an idea” ... he always made time for us & he always poured all of his talent and creativity into each thing he created. We just spoke on Friday about some new work, some business and some future ideas and it feels surreal to know that those ideas will not come to be. Dan - thank you for everything, you were so loved by us and you will be missed by us forever ❤️
