"In an estate like Aylesbury, it's huge, you know everyone but you don't know everyone. You've got associates you say hi to. At parties, you're getting to know them a bit more. The djs. The dancers." I learnt a lot during my conversation with @icdj for @djmagofficial on his music that traces the many lineages of Afro house and Afro tech. He told me stories about growing up on Aylesbury Estate, his days in Evisu jeans playing nights like Cream of Da Crop with people like DJ Ez and Spoony. We spoke about the importance of creating safe spaces for young people to come and create music, and how we gives free studio time to young people getting into music. He told me about a mailing list that he has, a treasure trove for people to find undiscovered music and mixes from artists like @angelarose_x and the DJs and producers he works with from @dj_jim_mastershine to @ceeychris I always see these conversations with artists as an opportunity for a meaningful exchange. This is someone who took time out of music to get an accountancy degree, set up his own business and came back ready to use that infrastructure to do brilliant things in music. Audio snippet is from his accompanying On Cue Mix, over an hour of originals, collaborations and tracks from peers. "Sounds of the IC" Link in bio & DJ Mag site.
