This World AIDS Day, we look back on a 1993 series shot by photographer @GideonMendel documenting the UK’s first purpose-built HIV/AIDS unit - the Broderip and Charles Bell wards of Middlesex Hospital. Speaking to Huck about the series in 2018, Mendel said: “There was this huge, quite irrational amount of fear. I was really trying to capture the kind of compassion and love which would challenge the fear and stigma.” #worldaidsday
