Conflict is inevitable. It’s how we navigate conflict that determines the trajectory of a relationship. The Gottman Institute states that relationships with higher rates of repair can withstand conflicts better. Here are two other points around conflict that I’ve learned from them: 1. Conflicts that are viewed as us vs. the conflict have a higher rate of repair compared to those that are viewed as you vs. me. When two people see themselves as joined forces against a conflict instead of against each other, they can navigate that conflict more smoothly. 2. Making deposits in our emotional bank account can help us build a strong foundation in our relationships. Expressing appreciation, intentionally making memories, and prioritizing each other can all be ways to make deposits in your emotional bank accounts.
