Treasure found by @gastroobscura: "We all know magic beans aren't real... and yet, the Nonna Agnes bean exists. These little-known beauties hail from Italy, and their hue is heat sensitive.
That rich cobalt color? Entirely contingent on the plant maturing in cool weather.
Nonna Agnes beans that ripen in warm weather turn varying shades of gray (no, not fifty). Some may have a bluish tint, but not the kind that induces an involuntary belief in magic.
This handful was grown by @mn.urban.garden via @experimentalfarmnetwork. They're best used as a dry bean, but also work as shelling or snap beans when young."
