At mile 11 I was starting to feel fatigued and my right hip and left foot were really wishing I’d slow up a bit to give them a break. I had been running with a pace group since the start and wanted to hold on to them for as long as I could, because once you drop a pace group it’s hard to get them back. Our pacer Jennifer (love that queen), yelled out “guide runner on the right”. I looked up and saw a runner guiding a blind runner by holding a small rope. In that moment I looked at Liz and could feel tears welling up in my eyes. I mentally added her to my list of people and reasons I was running for. I am inspired by a lot of super fast, elite and gritty runners. But I am more inspired by people like her. People that take the hand they’re dealt in life and every challenge they have and face it head on. They take it and run with it, literally. She put all her faith and trust in that guide runner. I knew no matter what pain I felt the rest of the race would never amount to what she goes through daily. She reminded me why I put my trust in God. When I can’t see the plan, He can.
