(Article from @nytimes) Last week, a 10-year-old girl from Ohio was forced to cross state lines to get an abortion. Ohio’s post-Roe v. Wade laws ban almost all abortions after a heartbeat can be detected, and would have forced the 10-year-old rape victim to carry the child to term.
Globally, complications relating to pregnancy and childbirth are the leading cause of death for girls aged 15-19, according to @who. Many child marriage survivors are subjected to early, forced, and frequent sexual relations, often resulting in early and frequent pregnancies. Being forced to carry and deliver a child while still a child oneself causes irreversible physical and psychological trauma.
Every day TYTW is committed to the fight for bodily autonomy, which includes reproductive rights. Denying people with uteruses access to this necessary medical procedure can cost lives, robbing people of their bodily autonomy, their social networks, their physical and emotional wellbeing, and the right to complete an education.
TYTW advocates for a world where reproductive rights for girls, women, and nonbinary people are honored and protected. To join us in this fight, please consider sharing the work we do with others, and donating through the link in our bio.
