PSA: Please DO NOT Use the accessible parking spaces at your child’s school. Of course it’s never OK to misuse an accessible parking spot, but it’s particularly irksome when I hear about the same parents doing this at their child’s school day after day and week after week, when they KNOW there are families with disabled kids who actually need those spots. I get dozens of DM’s about this from parents of disabled kids every year and it absolutely boils my blood. It’s against the law and it’s more than inconvenient... If we can’t have an accessible spot than my daughter literally can’t get out of the car. At least not safely. Fortunately, this isn’t a problem in our school community, but it is one I’ve heard about a lot. Of course you don’t always know if someone is disabled by looking at them, so please don’t ever assume a person’s disability status just by looking at them. But if this is a problem at your school or in your community (when you know the people doing this are not disabled) I would encourage you to report it to the administrators and if they do nothing, then the police. #Accessibility #AccessibleParking #AccessibilityAwareness
