And I wonder why I’m single?! We can often make jokes or remarks like this to brush off feelings of rejection, what’s wrong with me? What can I change about myself to feel loved? I had an ex boyfriend keep asking why I wouldn’t want a wheelchair that allowed me to stand up straight. I guess he found it fascinating but in my mind he was wanting me to change. I have no desire to stand or have a chair that helps me do so (each to their own of course) but I guess one of the reasons I’m not the best at dating is because I have always rejected the notion of changing who I am, my weight, my goofy nature, my loud mouth and almost giddy childish energy or my take on my disability identity for anyone other than me! There is a fine line between compromising to be part of a united couple like clearing out a sock draw or sharing household duties and loosing who you are to please your partner. I am a people pleaser and I could fall into this trap if I take my eye off what’s important for just a second which is being unapologetically me. German Kurry Ketchup licker and all! 📸 @myphotography1992 #TheDailyRenke #BookLaunchParty #SlicedBreadBook #YouAreTheBestThingSinceSliceBread #MindfulMoment #BeGoofy #BeUnapologeticallyYou
