For those who do read the captions, this is what the video’s text says: “I'm going to take more time to reflect and will post a more in depth response later, but I wanted to say now: I hear you. I've had a lot of you come to me both publicly and privately and explain to me where the issue lay and how hurt was caused. I think most people when learning something they love and feel passionate about have a negative source material or connotation tend to have a kneejerk protective reaction. And for that, I'm sorry. I should have listened sooner and though I might not get it right on the first try every time, I do promise to do better. Goblins, to me, have always represented something light, goofy and cheerful, but I also understand that things don't exist in a vacuum, and that a lot of the characteristics we associate with goblins come from a harmful place. Maybe there's a conversation to be had on how to move forward with this creature and away from the anti-semitism it's associated with, but as I am not a Jewish person, I understand that that's not a conversation for me to lead. I won't be deleting the posts, as I think it's important to keep up reminders of mistakes and I don't want to delete the emotional labor people have put in the comments across the platforms, especially going forward. I know this feels impersonal because it’s text instead of my face, but I still need time to reflect on everything and don’t want to come across as overemotional or make it seem like I’m trying to make this about me.
