“I go to races and a lot of people recognize me. I like to meet people and interact with them,” says María Adorno Ortiz about the best part of racing all around her native island, Puerto Rico.
María is a grandmother to many. She treats everyone she sees like a grandchild, including Emmanuel Márquez (@emarqz), he says, whom she had just met for this interview.
In many Hispanic and Latinx households, grandmothers play a special role. They are the keepers of recipes, the givers of advice, the solvers of life’s toughest problems. In the running community, Hispanic and Latinx grandmothers are also central.
