• L O S • O S O • Composition is a funny thing. This is one of my favorite @matthewabaca compositions, maybe my favorite in Los Osos, though there are so many here yet discovered. Occasionally I'll swing by this spot to see if the spot has decent light or interesting subjects, sometimes just to hang with the view for a moment. When you first get into photography, and I suspect this applies to all creative pursuits, you're told to start in your backyard. People often hold this idea that a great photograph is only portfolio when the subject is something well know, like Tunnel View, Marin Headlands or Angels Landing. These iconic views are great, dont get me wrong. Though there's a lot of soul in a found and lesser known compositions. Be it layering, lines, colors, negative spaces, whatever the case, when you look at someone's piece, they may not realize how much of themselves they're dropping into the scene by composing an acute and specific way. Sometimes it clicks, the scene just makes sense, the soul extrudes into the frame. I find my love for spaces all encompassing. Interiors, architecture, romantic period art, cave drawings and petroglyphs, whatever the scene, a composition is the soul in the piece, where the ultimate subtlety of the artist is found merging with the real world.
