Congratulations to @jaymc86 and the whole The Roll Call: The Roots to Strange Fruit team on being an official selection for the 13th Annual BronzeLens Film Festival. The Roll Call: The Roots to Strange Fruit will be shown on Tue, Aug 23rd, 3:42 PM @ Theater 3 @ IPIC Atlanta Colony Square. And get this, we’ve been nominated for this year's BronzeLens Awards! The BronzeLens Awards Show will be held Sunday, August 28th at 6:30pm at the prestigious Carter Center.
Presented in three chapters, Roll Call: The Roots to Strange Fruit is visual, sonic opera, draws on historical documents from 1619 through to abolition to explore the Black experience of slavery. Conceived and directed by @jaymc86 , the film is featuring an immersive chorus of voices rhythmically reciting auction blocks, fugitive ads and “Information Wanted” notices. This chorus consist of Denise Manning, Michael Oloyede, Tramell Tillman, Marquise Vilsón and Kara Young composed by Chaitanya /sangco and Joy Abalon Tamayo. Through narrating historical documents, the original work is brought visual and visually to life by LaWanda Hopkins who dances all three parts choreographed by Rickey Tripp. With Thomas Wirthensohn, as the director of cinematography and editor the film unearths the journey of Black people in America and creates a space of reclamation and healing.
This film was commissioned by @allartstv and produced by @natblacktheatre and Creative Doula LLC.
