Douglas Crimp was an altogether original human being: a brilliant thinker, beautiful writer, fearless activist, inspiring teacher, devoted friend. He was also a queer trailblazer in ways that changed many people’s lives, including mine. Here he is, circa 1994, showing off his newly polished leather boots at a cocktail party in his home. I love Douglas’ confidence in this picture and his joy in the swagger and silliness of the moment. The second image catches Douglas with Damien Jack (and Nan Goldin photographs) at the 1993 Whitney Biennial. The last is a shot of the two of us in white t-shirts sometime in the early 90s.
