I’m looking at Chris Harrison thinking, “what a perfect night.” It’s hard to capture those moments, because so much of parenting happens in-between the photos, doesn’t it? The hard, the beautiful, the hilarious. In all those times, I have learned from Chris what it means to be a great parent. He never gets mad at mistakes. As a result, his kids share their lives with him without fear, and they don’t take risks without reason. He validates their feelings. So, they communicate those feelings. He asks for their best, but meets them where they’re at. As a result, they work hard and want the best for themselves. He picks his battles, but isn’t afraid of messy conversations and doesn’t shut them down. As a result, his kids listen and take his advice. He shows up. At plays, senior nights, lacrosse games, and in the small ways. He texts to say, “I know you have a tough day ahead, I’m here for you.” And he says, “I love you.” All the time. As a result, they know the love they deserve, and the love they should give. He does all this and more, and as a result, he has two incredible children. Chris Harrison, we love you.
