Accidental #fentanyl overdoses deaths are on the rise in California and across the country. 100 times stronger than morphine, the legally prescribed painkiller has become a popular recreational substance over the last decade. It has also killed thousands of people who unknowingly consumed other substances that were laced or ‘cut’ with fentanyl. In #LosAngeles County, the number of deaths linked to fentanyl surpassed the 1,500-person mark in 2021 alone. As new year celebrations get underway, the Center has resources available to provide free fentanyl testing strips and Narcan, which acts as a reversal agent for suspected opioid overdoses.
