First-year medical students learned about how physicians use POCUS, or point-of-care ultrasound, to take care of patients. The POCUS curriculum spans all four years of medical school and uses innovative, educational concepts like flipped classroom, team-based learning, peer-to-peer education, and gamification. This session was led by senior medical students in a peer education program and residents in emergency medicine and internal medicine. "It was simply amazing to see students in the second week of medical school demonstrate understanding of ultrasound physics and artifacts, as well as an ability to perform ocular ultrasound and internal jugular vein assessment," shared Alan Chiem, MD, MPH. Dr. Chiem is an @ucla_em emergency physician who is also the @dgsomucla Director of Ultrasound Education. #UCLA #UCLAHealth #UCLACommunity #ItBeginsWithU #PowerOfU #DGSOM #DGSOMUCLA #MedicalStudent #MedicalSchool
