“If you can see it, you can be it.” —@kararoselles (Kara Roselle Smith)
“My work seeks to challenge people’s often limited beliefs, specifically what native looks like. It seeks to celebrate the importance of Indigenous knowledge and the resilience of those I descend from.
I highlight the Land Back movement by posting about the stolen land of my tribe and many others, as well as explaining that Indigenous knowledge and practices are what will sustain us on this planet, our home,” says Kara. She’s an Afro-Indigenous author, model and creator and newly elected @chappaquiddickwampanoag (Chappaquiddick Wampanoag) tribe council member.
“I believe Indigenous peoples and their knowledge should be celebrated every day, but Indigenous People’s Day is important, because it’s the start of recognizing the people who have truly made Turtle Island great — replacing Columbus who caused immense harm and didn’t even step foot in ‘North America.’”
