According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), yin and yang can’t exist without each other — they are inseparable. However, they are also frequently consuming, or becoming, one another: together they make a whole. Yin refers to the representation of life force, or qi energy, that is cold, damp, passive, material, and form. Yang refers to the hot, warm, active, immaterial, and operative aspects of qi energy. In the body, there has to be a natural balance of yin and yang energies. In TCM, we look at everything in your life from the foods you eat to the way you sleep and the thoughts you feel and create something unique to you. Yin and yang must exist in balance for there to be optimal health. Using acupuncture, we balance yin and yang in each individual - calming the shen, cooling the heat, and anchoring the body.
