This was an interesting find from one of today’s breast explant surgery cases. This patient had 335cc MICROCHIPPED silicone breast implants. She had them for 2 years. She presented to the office with joint pain, breast pain, and depression. The manufacturer of these devices claims the microchips can store information like brand, size, serial number, format, volume, data, manufacturing date, and silicone levels/quality for the lifetime of the silicone implant. Since approval in 2010, these implants have been implanted in women in over 60 countries. They are not approved for commercial distribution in the US at this time. I wish this patient well on her healing journey. I will look forward to following up with her soon. ((reshared from last year))
