We’re thrilled to announce our August 2022 "Hero of Gage & Tollner," Sophia Chang! Sophia is the founder of Unlock Her Potential (@unlockherpotential), a non-profit enterprise that pairs women of color with mentors in various fields including media and film, culinary and community awareness, finance and fine art. Their mission statement reads: “Research has revealed that very few women of color get mentored. Even worse, many don’t even think to seek mentors. That’s how systemic racism + patriarchy work hand in hand. IT’S TIME TO CHANGE THAT. It’s time to equip women of color to ascend to the C-suite, run the shows, direct the films, and take over. It’s time to break up the boys’ club that has kept the gates closed off to us for too long.” We couldn't agree more. We’re so grateful for Sophia’s dedication to leveling the playing friend and building a better, more lucrative future for women of color. Each month, our staff nominates and votes on one charitable leader to recognize, who we then honor with a complimentary gift certificate to dine with us at Gage & Tollner.
