NOW ON SALE Tickets are now on sale for our spring exhibition #TheOffbeatSari (19 May–17 Sep), the first large-scale exhibition in the UK to explore contemporary Indian saris. The show looks at the sari as a site for design innovation, and an expression of identity and resistance. Bringing together over 90 saris on loan from designers in India, #TheOffbeatSari explores how the garment has been reinvented. In recent years, young people in cities who used to associate the sari with dressing up are starting to transform it into contemporary everyday fashion, wearing it with sneakers on their way to work for instance. Beyond a design movement, the contemporary sari has also become a cultural movement with people wearing it as an expression of resistance.
