I'm grateful to be an athlete by profession. Through this career, I've been celebrated for being myself but I know we have a long way to go. I find myself tether tottering through this process. I'm always associated with a descriptor: Black athlete. Plus size athlete. Athlete with disabilities. Queer athlete. And you know, these descriptors don't bother me one bit with the exception that we're not often celebrated like those who don't need to add a prefix. Some will say "...but people like you are celebrated." Some will claim that people like me are "obsessed" with this conversation. I'll counter with reminding people that I don't submit to gaslighting. And with all of the conversations happening these days, if you're not aware, this is a great time to learn. I am not too comfortable with calling myself an activist but I do advocate for what's right. For me, it's not an option. And that's enough for me to stay in this career. But when I say I'm grateful for being celebrated for being me, I don't think there's enough words to express that gratitude. #runningfatchef #fatrunner #hoka #timetofly #flyhumanfly #plussizeathlete #nycmarathontraining #marathontraining #plussizerunner #icandohardthings #keepshowingup #queerators #queeraf #chronicillness #pcos #clifcreator #blackcreatives #BlackGirlJoy #runtok #runnertok #plusizepositivity #fattok #blackfittok #blacktiktok #queertokers
