Is Liguria worth the visit in the off season? Here’s my experience... The first time I visited Liguria was 15 years ago, and the mix of the luscious hills, the dramatic cliffs, and the smell of the clean and pure sea and air made me feel alive. The olive and citrus trees, the local eateries, and the gorgeous sunsets make it a little paradise on earth. The only problem? Intense summer congestion. Enter the off season. In September and October the sea was still warm enough to swim in, but without all of the summer crowds. Some of the more well known locations in Liguria are Genova, Portofino, and Cinque Terre, but smaller villages such as Cervo were a little dream come true. My favorite new discovery was the trail that runs along Camogli, San Rocco, and Punta Chiappa. I can’t believe I had never done it before, with so many hidden gems along the way it would be a shame to miss it. Culinarily speaking, freshly made Pesto alla Genovese is the most famous pasta sauce, and my favorite way to have it is with their version of lasagne al pesto that you can only find in Liguria! It was so light I couldn’t believe it was lasagne 😂 Then there’s my favorite focaccia... A Bitega du Pan in Diano Marina. A historical bakery run by Francesco and Olga, a married couple that have been in the business for over 40 years. Every time I’m in Liguria I have to visit, and they are just as warm as their freshly baked focaccia 🥰 So is Liguria worth the trip in the off season? In my opinion, the off season is the best season! What are your favorite spots in Liguria? I would love to know for my next trip! Until then, sending hugs from northern Italy ♥️ Christie @visititaly #visititaly #italiantravel #howitalyfeels #slowtravel #italianstyle #beitalian
