She puts the “cure” in curator: Connie Wolf has created a veritable museum of contemporary art in the new Stanford hospital. She has selected and lovingly placed works by 550 artists (more than half of whom are women) throughout the building. We are standing in front of an exuberant Sol LeWitt mural (partially executed by two Stanford undergrads) and in the next shot, Connie is shown with a video installation by Jennifer Steinkamp in which local wildflowers move wildly. Connie has brought together magnificent works throughout the hospital by artists such as Ghada Amir, Polly Apfelbaum, Jennifer Bartlett, Tammy Rae Carland, David Hockney, Anish Kapoor, Ellsworth Kelly, Byron Kim, Beatriz Milhazes, Tabitha Soren, Mickalene Thomas, and Leo Villareal. The acquisition and arrangement of these works bespeak superb intelligence, sensitivity to context, and deep respect for art and its power.
