Beer battered fish sandwich with homemade tartar sauce.
Ingredients:
1lb Cod fish filet
Salt
Pepper
Garlic powder
Batter:
1 cup Flour
1⁄2 tsp paprika
Cajun seasoning
Garlic powder
cayenne pepper
2 eggs whisked
1 1⁄4 cup beer (I used modello, a cheap light beer works great)
Tartar sauce :
1⁄4 cup mayo
Squeeze of a Lemon
1tsp chopped Dill
dijon mustard
Relish
*I didn’t really measure when making this, so most measurements are approximate.
How to:
Slice fish into portions for the sandwich. Season lightly with salt, pepper and garlic powder.
In a bowl combine flour with paprika, cajun seasoning and italian seasoning. Whisk in the egg, then gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth and with no lumps. Take your time and don’t add too much beer because you don’t want a runny batter.
Heat frying oil in a skillet about 3 inches deep over medium high heat. Fry the fish for about 3 minutes per side. Place the fish on a wire rack to cool so it doesn’t get soggy.
While the fish cools, make the tartar sauce. In a small bowl combine all the ingredients for the tartar sauce. Use a small amount of mustard and a small amount of relish. Tweak to your liking.
Assemble your sandwich, I like to use a brioche bun or potato roll bun. Eat and enjoy!
