Quite a few of you are new here so I’d like to reshare the story and meaning behind the design of Alimentari brand. I purchased the montecatini font kit from @louisefili , a legendary graphic designer responsible for some of the most awe inspiring visual identity projects including the adored @viacarota and @barpisellino. I deeply admire Louise’s work and was honored to sit down with her one afternoon to talk about the alchemy of simple & timeless design. Montecatini is a quintessential art nouveau typeface inspired by the ligature of stile liberty travel posters from the early 20th century. Once I had the font down, I knew that I wanted the logos to feel transportive and distinctly Mediterranean. The calçada background is a cracked and patterned limestone that harkens to my Portuguese heritage and honors ancient textures and natural, timeless beauty. The macchiato colored text and fig illustration honors my travels in Italy, where weeks of flânerie were fueled by Italian espresso and freshly picked figs. The word Flâneur was positioned and sized strategically beneath Alimentari as an homage to Paris, a place I have loved and lived in and which is also found beneath the wordmarks of two of my favorite brands; Hermes and Céline. This will be useful when I open an Alimentari in Paris. It also serves as a nod to the essence of the word itself; the Flâneur wanders and therefore does not belong to any city, really. He is a man of the crowd, one who indulges in a dalliance with life informed by curiosity. The words that define the brand; Qualità, Simplicité, Intimacy are in Italian, French, and English respectively. Why? Because I try to not take myself or life too seriously. The elongated “L” and “R” in ALIMENTARI convey motion and encourage you all to stroll and wonder, to revel in the joy of discovery while meandering. The last addition to the emblem was New York City, because I’m a born & raised New Yorker and the city will always be a source of wonder & awe for people like myself—afflicted with a dreamer’s personality disorder. The Alimentari logo set was designed by the immensely talented @sonniekozlover
