Basilica In ancient times, a Basilica was a place people could gather, and later a place where people could worship. Basilica - one of eight of my pieces in the Human + Nature exhibtion at the @mortonarb - was created with the intention of creating a gathering space. A place where people could be held by nature. Hands welcome and reach for passers-by, inviting them to hold and be held by nature. The roots that resemble arteries, both sources of life and nourishment, stand as a reminder of our own interconnectedness with nature. As people enter the hands and interact with the space, they explore the concept of the inner and outer landscapes within which we live, as well as the connection between them. International Day of Peace is a day of non violence, a day where we respect and explore our interconnectedness and commemorate and strengthen the ideals of peace, within and among all people, plants and every living thing.
