'OMW is a video about persona and performance, exploring pop music and artifice through the figure of the clown. We visit Ashe in an alternate reality where she's an embittered, listless trailer park resident working as a children's birthday entertainer, laughing through the pain of discarded and failed dreams. The piece is full of references to the other videos Ashe and I have made together, and it represents our twelfth collaboration (on a series of music videos and live performance pieces). It feels like the capstone to date of all of the work, and like everything else we've made, there was no doubt that we would shoot on film. Most of the Ashe videos have been shot on 16mm, but for this and "Angry Woman" earlier this year we were able to use 35mm, and the results were just as warm and cinematic as we hoped.
