We started working on sleep training with @sleepwise.kaitlinriggs at 6ish weeks to build good sleep habits, so that when we do hit 3-4 months we’re in a good spot for official sleep training. These are the things that have seemed to make the biggest difference in his sleep: ▫️ follow eat, play, sleep: we weren’t sure how long Bloom needed to be awake & how long he should be napping, so having this loose schedule is super helpful. ▫️ stimulate during wake windows: tire your baby out! This is my favorite part because he’s so much more expressive & alert. I can also start to see his sleep cues now that I’m playing with him instead of just killing time until nap time. ▫️ get full feeds: make sure your baby eats every 3 hours (we aim for 4oz) during the day so he’ll sleep bigger stretches at night. ▫️ bath time: omg I wish I did this sooner! He LOVES the bath & he passes out right after. Perfect to do bath time during his normal witching hours (around 6-7pm are his hardest hours). ▫️ practice naps in the crib: I’ll attempt to put him in the crib & practice soothing techniques if he’s upset for about an hour & if it’s not working after 45 minutes to an hour, I rock him to sleep. Practicing this has been key & now he can nap in his crib better each day. ▫️ switching to sleep sack: my baby HATED any swaddle, so when we made this shift we saw instant results. Things we still need to work on: ▫️ longer naps: right now he only gives us about 25-35 minutes ▫️ limit pacifier: usually when his pacifier falls out it wakes him up & we have to keep going in to put it back. At nighttime he doesn’t need it to fall asleep, just during the day. ▫️ longer stretches at night: this weekend we’ve seen HUGE improvement, hope this continues! #sleepwiseconsulting #babysleep #sleeptraining #babysleeptips #sleeptips
