Thinking back over this season on the Ningaloo and all the incredible encounters I've had. The month that will always stand out for me will be when we had an influx of Lions Mane Jelly Fish. This is something I didn't see the year before and was definitely something I didn't expect. After some big winds and tides we started to see thousands of these huge jellies coming in to the reef from deeper water. They are so huge and their tentacles are so long that not only were we getting tangled in them but so were the whale sharks. Lions Mane Jellyfish are the longest animal on earth measuring over 36m long when fully stretched out. Bigger than a blue whale..incredible right? Lucky for us all their sting is super mild. But the whale sharks definitely weren't keen!
