Mental health is something that I’m very passionate about. My anxiety and depression has been debilitating at times but I’ve pushed through it and that’s why I’m still here today. I’ve had many friends who have lost the battle with their mind and they’re no longer here. The negative thoughts that tell you you’re not good enough or don’t deserve what you’ve achieved along with others are real and valid. When someone doesn’t want to do anything or when they retract from social situations aren’t being dramatic or seeking attention. Their brain really makes them feel like the world is against them so it’s important to make them feel wanted without smothering them with affection. The stigma around the mental health in youth needs to be changed because we’re seen as faking it because we haven’t been through enough life to be depressed, anxious, have PTSD, OCD, along with other issues. Discounting someone’s feelings can make situations worse and push them over the edge if they trusted you enough to disclose such thoughts. Always be courteous and thoughtful. I’m in a way better place than I have been in the past couple of years but college is a whole different beast than high school ever was. The high standards of needing to get good grades to keep scholarships and to get the respect of others is insane. Actually having a social life is harder than ever being in such big classes with upperclassmen, you hardly get to meet anyone especially since I live off campus. I’m still adjusting and will keep on chugging along though. No one ever said college was easy. It’s important to not bottle your feelings up and good to express them through different outlets. Mental health is one of, if not, the most important part of a persons health. There are plenty of resources out there so never hesitate to reach out. Just my thoughts on this #WorldMentalHealthDay
