@forgeprojectny is delighted to support a radical performance that will culminate at the @ccasantafe to celebrate #IndigenousPeoplesDay. Demian DinéYazhi’ @heterogeneoushomosexual and Kevin Holden @navahomo will perform SHATTER/// to activate an installation by DinéYazhi’ of racist objects in CCA’s current exhibition, “Self-Determined: A Contemporary Survey of Native and Indigenous Artists.” “Indigenous performance art is more than a mere spectacle,” DinéYazhi’ says. “It has the potential to be ceremonial: to be offering: to be prayer: to be a conjuring force that supplements the revolutionary force(s) that fuel radical ambitions.” “The shattering is cathartic: the catharsis paves the way to beauty: the beauty was always present in our survival: our Survivance is an ancestral legacy that demands nurturing.” The night will begin with an in-person discussion between DinéYazhi’ and Holden moderated by CCA’s Programming Coordinator, Kiersten Fellrath @aura_of_art. CCA has implemented a live, multi-camera setup in its gallery space to be fed in real-time to the museum’s cinema where audiences can experience the performance on the big screen, and online audiences can watch via stream. The transformed installation will be on view through the run of “Self-Determined,” closing November 27. DinéYazhi’ (they/them) is a Diné transdisciplinary artist, writer, and curator who uses social interventions to interrupt colonial power structures. Holden is a Diné, Irish, German, and Norwegian composer and sound artist based in and around Portland, Oregon. The SHATTER/// performance is dedicated to DinéYazhi’s cousin Lee Renee Anderson, as well as Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Trans, Femmes, 2Spirit, and Queer relatives, commonly known as #MMIW or #MMIP.
