35K LONGRUN IN KENYA!
.
I was so nervous about this run, I was a mental mess after the race and with organizing the Kenya camp and all travels I didn't really sleep that well. But I woke up this morning and told myself to do my best "don't kill yourself" just run relaxed and maybe we will have a good one.
I went out with the best intentions but definitely hesitant, my pacer Cheboi gave me 1km of warm up at 3:50 everything else from there was 3:30ks (5:30 miles) and told Cheboi to not go any faster, the idea was just to have a good longrun, no need to push. He said "okay" and stayed in that pace for about 20k.
Once we turned around we started clicking 3:25 ks, then 3:20 and at 30k I realized I was having a good day and told Cheboi "Let's go" We went from 3:20 down to 3:08 and finish strong and happy.
Moral of the story: Don't let your head beat you before you even started the race (or training) trust your mind, your body and just do the best you can. I just ran the best 35k I've done in Kenya so far, not so much because of the average pace (3:29) but because I finish strong, confident, healthy and happy.
