The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is the most significant federal invest in U.S. History to fight climate change. Signed into law yesterday, the IRA will be responsible for slashing 40% of U.S GHGs by 2030. For the first time ever, the full financial weight of the U.S Federal government is behind the clean energy movement. The IRA includes a $370B in investment in climate and clean energy programs, mostly toward tax credits for renewable energy. At its core, this bill contains a set of investment at are all aimed at making clean energy technologies and climate solutions cheaper for all Americans. This is HUGE. There has never – never – been climate legislation anywhere near this substantial passed in the United States. The US is currently responsible for about 11% of global emissions, and is the largest historical emitting country on the planet. Though this is only a U.S. policy, it is a major step forward and proves that top down action is possible.
