A few days ago, I received the very unfortunate news that my college basketball coach, Coach Litz, passed away...⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I met Coach Litz when he started recruiting me in high school, and I eventually went on to play for him at Vanguard University for 4-years. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Because I lived so close to the school, I saw and worked out with Coach Litz just about every single day during the summers. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ No matter what time I wanted to come in, he was always around to open the gym and put me through a workout. There were days when we trained at 5am and other times 9pm. No matter what, he was there. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ In all my 4-years playing for him, I don’t think I ever beat Coach Litz to the gym. Even on days when I showed up at 5am for a 5:30am workout... there he was sitting in the office, drinking his 2-liter of Diet Pepsi fully ready to get started. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I’ve never met anyone who worked harder or loved the game of basketball more than Coach Litz. And I don’t think there will ever be someone that walks this earth that will match his work ethic and love for the game...⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I also know for a fact that I will never meet anyone who will tell me to “get in a stance” or “stop falling back” on my jump shot more than Coach Litz. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ After graduating from college, we stayed in good touch and spoke on the phone every couple of months. We met up a few times over the years - where I got to see him coach, put players through workouts, hang out in his office and talk, go to dinner, and speed walk (like he always did) around the neighborhoods/campus. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I got to hear all about his coaching adventures, and all his world travel teaching the game of basketball. Coach Litz was always on the go, and loved every second of it because basketball was involved. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ He one time told me he watched 15-hours of game film on a flight to China, landed and went straight to the gym to coach a group of kids. That’s just the type of person he was. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It’s honestly mind blowing to think about how many lives Coach Litz touched from all over the world. From young kids in China to NBA players.
